Noise Contours: Runway 08 Operations
These maps illustrate the comparative noise footprints of different types of aircraft departing from YVR in an easterly direction over the land. On each map, a Chapter 2 aircraft departing from the south runway (Runway 08R) is shown in red.

Chapter 2 aircraft are being phased out and will not be allowed to operate in Canada after April 2002. In 2000, Chapter 2 jet aircraft made up approximately 8% of the fleet.

Dash-8: Propeller

The noise footprint of a Dash-8 aircraft departing from the north runway (Runway 08L) is shown here in blue. The Dash-8 and other propeller aircraft made up almost half the arrivals and departures at YVR in 2000.

A320: Chapter 3

The noise footprint of a Chapter 3 jet aircraft departing on the north runway (Runway 08L) is shown here in blue. These are the newer, quieter aircraft and represented about 30% of the arrivals and departures at YVR in 2000.

B737-200: Chapter 2

The noise footprint of a Chapter 2 aircraft departing from the north runway (Runway 08L) is shown here in blue. This only occurs during emergencies and maintenance.

To meet the phase-out rule, some airlines are "hushkitting" or recertifying these older aircraft to meet Chapter 3 standards. Hush-kitted aircraft represented less than 13% of the arrivals and departures at YVR in 2000.
   


To minimize the noise in the community, we will continue to route departures over the water as much as possible when wind conditions allow.
