Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is the second largest international passenger gateway on North America's West Coast, with 16.9 million passengers expected in 2006. Keeping this dynamic and growing operation running smoothly and efficiently requires a dedicated team of technical professionals.
As a member of the Airport Authority's engineering/maintenance group, your work as an Electrician, Plumber or Millwright/Mechanic at YVR will be challenging and diverse. In addition to preventative maintenance and repair on some of the most technologically advanced systems and infrastructure in the world, you'll team up with Airport Authority engineers working on new projects to provide your input and feedback on system requirements, specifications and performance.
- Vancouver International Airport has one of the world's most technologically advanced computer-controlled airfield lighting systems. In a recent project, YVR technicians provided leadership in a major upgrade to energy efficient LED technology over a large area of the airfield-an airport first.
- Our facilities utilize advanced building management and monitoring systems, such as computerized access control, sophisticated heating and air conditioning systems and one of the largest monitored fire alarm systems in British Columbia.
- YVR technicians maintain and upgrade the airport's automated baggage system, which features integration of PLC-driven electrical and mechanical subsystems. More than 60,000 bags are monitored daily via graphical user interfaces.
- The Airport Authority manages its own water and electrical utilities. Our technicians maintain monitored utility metering systems for both water and electrical distribution, and have contributed significantly to the development of our highly regarded YVR Potable Water Program.

Extensive on-the-job and classroom training grows your skills and keeps you up-to-date with the latest technology. In the ever-changing airport environment, you'll have the chance to discover and pursue your strengths in your areas of interest. Trades employees are given the opportunity to develop their skills in a second trade. More than 60 percent of Airport Authority technical staff are dual-ticketed or in the process of becoming dual-ticketed.
